Itchy, itchy, itchy

Normally being a part of .08% of the population would leave me feeling special, unique even....

I'll spare you the gruesome details, but I learned that I'm allergic to a certain medication.  Lovely.  How did I find this all out?  Well it started about 2 weeks ago....

I went to a normal office visit, and left with a new prescription.  Excited to try something new and see if it helped my depression more than the others I have tried so far.  I was told it is fast acting so I would notice results within a week.  Day 6 I thought to myself, "hey!  I think this might just be the thing I'm looking for!"  Day 7 I woke up with a lovely rash covering my head and chest.  I just googled a picture for ya, but I think I won't include it.  They're all pretty nasty.

So I called up my Doctor and he told me to stop taking the medication immediately and take some benadryl.  I did as I was told and by that night my rash had gotten a lot worse, the back of my head and neck were swelling quite a bit, and I was having trouble breathing.  So we took off to the InstaCare.

They swabbed me for strep just to make sure it wasn't that.  When he came in with a negative strep test he started explaining things to me.  I quote: "When a patient gets a rash while on this medication, we kind of freak out a little bit."  "If it doesn't get better in the next couple of days or if it ever gets any worse, head straight to the E.R."

Hmm....kinda left me feeling a bit nervous.  But he started me on a steroid, told me to see my doctor the next morning, and to stay doped up on Benadryl.   The swelling in my head and neck were my lymph nodes protesting.  It hurt.  Now I'll actually feel sorry for people when they have rashes.  I had no idea how much they HURT!  Wowsa!  My body was on fire!

I've just spent the last 4 out of 6 days flying high on "benny".  I stopped taking it because I was getting better and BAM!  The rash came back in a hurry.  So I'm forced to take it once again...tell me, how can a mom function while under the influence of that stuff?  Maybe I'm just a light weight, but I cannot keep my eyes open or my head in the game.  I find myself starting sentences and never finishing them, falling asleep everywhere, and just plain being cranky!

As usual Sean has taken good care of all of us, but had to return to work tonight.  We all miss him terribly.  The kids probably the most because not only is daddy not home, but their mom has been replaced with a grouchy-sleepy-weirdo.

Maybe after this is all over and the last remaining splotches disappear I will feel unique.  Until then, I'll stay mad.  Although....now when I'm asked if I'm allergic to any medications instead of saying, "not that I know of." I can reply "Lamictal".  That'll spruce things up during boring office visits!

Hee Haws

Mara got to go on a field trip to Hee Haw Farms.  Logan and I went with her.  They both had a blast running around with the animals.  Getting lost in the corn field.  Running away from Mommy (NOT cool).  Going on the hay ride.  And picking their pumpkins.  It was my first time at Hee Haws, and I think after this awesome field trip, we'll make it a tradition!

Halloween & Costumes.

Mara got to be a mermaid for Halloween.  Her costume turned out cute, but once she started walking it would get all messed up.  Oh well, it looked super cute if she didn't move!  Not the ideal set up for a kids costume, but after spending that much time making it, I was not about to have her be something else!

Logan is mildly obsessed with Mater, so I had the idea to make him a Mater box car for his costume.  Sean went above and beyond the call of duty in assembling this beast.  He put it all together and I painted it.  This Mater was totally legit.  Complete with his tow cable and all.  Sean even took real straps to hook him into it.  In the end, Logan didn't want to wear it....all that work!  In his defense it was somewhat heavy.  So we borrowed a wagon to do the trick or treating in.  He thought that was pretty cool, so he kept it on!

Daddy had to work on Halloween...LAME!  I cannot wait until he has a normal job instead of shift work.

Logan was "hiding" in Grammy's cape.  He really thought we couldn't see him.  I love this stage.

I'm thinking that next year we'll opt for store bought costumes....

Halloween Performance

Mara is in a Performing Arts preschool.  We really love that she gets to concentrate on singing, dancing, and art not just academics.  She totally loves it too.  I figure kill 2 birds with 1 stone!  I don't have to pay for dance lessons!  We are ALL going to be sad when she has to leave the school when we move.  So if anyone knows of any good preschools in the Saratoga Springs area, let me know!

Now back to the subject.  We got to go to Mara's school on Halloween for a little performance.  They sang some songs and danced for us.  It was beyond adorable.  Mara was totally into the dancing.   Here are the pictures:

Pumpkins!

Max, Mara, Lizzie, & Logan chillin' on the swing after their pumpkins were done being painted.
Logan thought he was pretty neat with a knife....kinda scares me.

We had Mara draw her face on the pumpkin then Sean helped her carve it.  I thought the face was to die for.  SO darn cute that she did it herself!

Mine and Logan's pumpkins are on top of the hay and Sean's and Mara's are on the ground.  Yes, Sean did the puking pumpkin.  Totally nasty.  Every time I'd pass it I'd get a little nauseated.

We had a lot of fun this year with out pumpkins!  I think we'll keep painting and carving until the kids get a little older.
