Lessons from the Old Testament

Sean has recently started studying the Old Testament while he is at work in the control room with nothing to do for four hours every night! He came across this quotation in the Old Testament Student Manual. I thought I'd share it with all of you because I think it is so cool! It also gave me hope that we are going about this life the best way possible, even though it's really hard sometimes, and I question our decision to have another child at times, I KNOW we are following the Lord's council and will be blessed for it. Anyways, enjoy!!

(2-14) Genesis 1:28. “Be Fruitful and Multiply” Knowing that the primary work of God is “to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man” (Moses 1:39) and knowing that without a physical body man could not have a fulness of joy (see D&C
93:33–35) and knowing that coming to earth to prove oneself is a prerequisite to eternal progression (see Abraham 3:25), one could safely say that bringing children into the world is one of the high priorities in the Lord’s plan.

President Spencer W. Kimball spoke of the importance of having children:

“The first commandment recorded seems to have been ‘Multiply and replenish the earth.’ Let no one ever think that the command came to have children without marriage. No such suggestion could ever have foundation. . . .

“I have told many groups of young people that they should not postpone their marriage until they have acquired all of their education ambitions. I have told tens of thousands of young folks that when they marry they should not wait for children until they have finished their schooling and financial desires. Marriage is basically for the family, and when people have found their proper companions there should be no long delay. They should live together normally and let the children come.

“There seems to be a growing feeling that marriage is for legal sex, for sex’s sake. Marriage is basically for the family; that is why we marry—not for the satisfaction of the sex, as the world around us would have us believe. When people have found their companions, there should be no long delay. Young wives should be occupied in bearing and rearing their children. I know of no scriptures where an authorization is given to young wives to withhold their families and to go to work to put their husbands through school. There are thousands of husbands who have worked their own way through school and have reared families at the same time. Though it is more
difficult, young people can make their way through their educational programs.” (“Marriage is Honorable,” in Speeches of the Year, 1973, pp. 262–63.)

Canyon Hike

We decided to go on a hike last Saturday. So we went and bought a cheap little carrier for Mara packed up some snacks and the dog, and off we went. On the ride up Mara kept making silly faces. This is one of my favorites:


Mara loves Babe, Sean's childhood dog. We were constantly having to yell at Babe to come back so Mara learned to yell "Bob!" It was pretty funny. Here's babe playing in the water. I seriously love this dog.


We decided to bring along Uncle Will. He's a friend of ours that Sean has known since Grade School and I've known since High School. It's fun having him around again now that he's out of the Marines! Thanks for coming Willy!


When we were done with our little hike we let Mara on the ground to play in the dirt. She kept trying to eat the rocks. When she wasn't eating them, she was throwing them. I sense a long summer of trying to teach Mara proper rock etiquette.


This is what I got to see the entire Hike. My cute hubster and darling stinker poo! It really was a fun day, even though my fat pregnant behind sometimes had a hard time keeping up!!!

Sean's Favorite Playoff Moments

So how about I explain this. Number one and number two. Obviously it had to be the only two Jazz plays on NBA.com's top play widget. As for the other three, Jordan was great, but since he beat us twice in the playoffs, it's nice to see him lose a game cuz he got the ball stolen from him. I hate the Lakers, so being reminded of Kobe and the Laker's thrashing last season is always nice, and I'm also not a huge fan of the Celtics, so how about that King James?

Splish Splash

Mara decided to join her cousins in the bathtub today. It was pretty funny. She had a blast but I don't think Kayden and Maddux liked it very much...so I don't know how often that'll happen in the future. But it sure was cute to watch!

Easter!

The day before Easter we went to our Ward's Easter Egg Hunt. Mara totally didn't get it, but it was still fun for Mom and Dad.



It wouldn't be Easter without a new Easter Dress, right? Off we went to the mall and found this:


Of course we then had the traditional Easter Basket off goodies. Mara's favorite item? The $5 golf club set. I think it's my favorite thing also. I can't get enough of Sean and Mara "golfing" around our living room, moving from "hole" to "hole".


I'll have to post a picture of them golfing another time. All in all Easter was a blast! It was Mara's first, second holiday ever. Does that make sense? Anyways, Happy Easter a week late.

I may be biased...

...but I'm pretty certain that Mara has the best daddy in the entire world. No seriously. It's no wonder why she likes him most. I would too if I was her. Let me give you a little look into the life of Mara with her daddy:

8:00ish am: Daddy gets me out of my crib, tickles me until I'm screaming, changes nasty all night diaper, sings a song or two, takes me to mommy's bed to wake her up. If she's too ornery that means just me and daddy get to play for a while until mommy wakes up!! Yay! Most of the time he even lets me just run around in my diaper. That's the way I like to be! Sometimes he even dresses me up in fun hats socks and shoes too!

8:15: Play with toys while daddy watches until I'm so hungry my tummy is going to start eating itself

8:30: Daddy makes me oatmeal, gives me my favorite food ever BANANAS! He doesn't try to feed me stuff I don't like like mommy does.

9:00: We go wake up mommy...hope she's in a better mood by now!

9:15: Play, play, play. And I'm not talking about a typical play session...he gives me piggy backs, pushes me around on my car, gets me to walk, reads me lots of stories, gets out toys only daddy cares to take the time to set up like my tee pee, and my tunnels, and the tent! He also likes to make me forts!

11:30 Mmm..lunch time! Again, he feeds me the best stuff ever!

Noon: BATH TIME! My favorite part of the whole day. Daddy washes my hair first and then we play! We color with my bath crayons all over the tub, sometimes he refills the tub til it reaches my chin so I get to "swim" around! That's so much fun I can't help but squeal and splash the whole time! Daddy sometimes gets so wet that HE has to change HIS clothes by the time we're done! He even lets me stay in there until my hands get all wrinkled like an old lady.
